A remarkable antique Victorian jade bead necklace measuring an impressive 45 inches. Each jade bead is glossy and smooth with pale green colouring and natural patterning showing through. The beads are knotted together on a length of green rope and fitted with a secure silver box clasp at the end adorned with a large leaf motif on top, also carved from jade.
A stone of legend and mysticism, Jade has been prized throughout history for its striking colour and glossy surface. It was particularly revered in East Asia and named “The stone of Heaven” as it was believed to bring good fortune, and long life to those who possessed it.
It’s a magnificent piece, all in excellent condition and can be worn as one long necklace that hangs at the stomach or looped twice around the neck to create two shorter festoons.
